PIAA Air Dam
I have entertained myself reading all of the back posts in this forum for several days. Thanks to all of you for the invaluable info I have picked up!
I own both a 2000 Silverado and a 2000 Suburban...(was a good income year)...and many of your posts apply to both. Some of the posts dealt with the stock fog light ineffectiveness, and I too had that problem. My solution was to purchase a couple of the PIAA air dams and mount aftermarket lights. In both cases I was able to drastically improve my "South Dakota dark road vision". It also seems to me that the round lights are more "aimable". I like the fit and finish of the dams, and they look very "stock" unless you know they aren't. This summer, I am going to mount the huge Hella 4000 HID Ralley lights in the Silverado's Dam. It's going to take some cutting and custom fiberglass fairing to pull it off but I think it will be worth it. I have the Sylvania HID conversions in both trucks and that too was great for vision. Not inexpensive, but we have the natural light of a cave out here on the prairie, and at the speeds that empty highways invite me to drive at, the deer strikes always deploy air bags and the blood spatters make you an immediate suspected axe murderer! Anyway, thanks for all the help, and please don't hold the Suburban ownership against me... Last edited by pnewcomb1; 03-14-2006 at 12:04 PM. |

Re: PIAA Air Dam
Got pics of the installation? I really like the look of the PIAA Air dam on their site but, didn't want to fork over the $$$$$ to get it.
Does it look like this? ![]() I purchased some PIAA 001 Solitaires the other day and I'm going to cut up my old Factory foggers and try molding these to the inside of the existing housings. I'll take pics and show the difference in lighting. Just hope it works out. I'm not worried if I destroy the Stock Fog light housings as the stock lights suck... Cheers Evan

Re: PIAA Air Dam
I have the same PIAA air dam with the lights. I love the look and the lighting in provides. I would like to mount some lights on the inside ovals or at least get some billet to fill that area up. PS if you tear up your stock air dam, someone email me, I have a brand new one sitting on the shop floor!LoL! Oh yeah mine is on a Burb also, so I don't hold that against you!

Re: PIAA Air Dam
I'm sorry Evan I don't have pictures. I can try to remedy that situation this weekend. I see that if I'm going to participate here, the picture thing makes it much easier.
I have always been too busy playing with the kids or the truck to go seriously shopping for a digital camera. And yup that dam is like the ones I have. I think I paid about $145.00 each plus shipping. They are a fine piece though...

Re: PIAA Air Dam
Well, Think I might just have to break down and purchase that PIAA Lower Valance kit. I installed my PIAA 001 Solitaires this weekend into my Factory fog lights and these little lights SUCK!!! I'm sure glad I didn't pay the $145 Retail that I saw them for. I guess I should have expected it the lights fit in the palm of your hand so it's pretty hard to get any light out of that. It's pretty funny actually when you turn them on they show a bit of light but, as soon as I turn my headlights on the light they produced disappears....
Oh well guess I'll save some coin....

Re: PIAA Air Dam
Hi guys! If you wish to save some bucks. Piaa makes a fog lamp the 1500XT That fits right into the original Silverado air dam. They look and work very well. You just have to make a bracket that mounts to the bumper from behind useing the same mounting holes as the original fogs.I made mine from aluminum. Anyways I agree the original fog lights suck. Have fun.

Those look nice how to do they perform??? I actually am considering saving up for the other Air Damn as I like the look of it better but, if these aren't too bad I may consider them..... I put Piaa Solitaire's in my factory foggers and I may as well have lit 2 $20 bills on fire and put them in there cause they suck rocks.... Let us know how the 1500XT's perform... Evan

Re: PIAA Air Dam
I had the 1500xt driving lights on my last car and they were almost too bright. I would think the fogs perform similarly. Definitely a nice option but I think they're a bit wide for the stock opening so they either need to be set out pretty far or behind the air dam.

Re: PIAA Air Dam
Chuck (Evan) the 1500xt 's are bright. Room in the valance is not an issue. These are what Piaa recomends for our truck. My lights sit so that the front of the lens is flush the outer edge. They don't sit out from the valance at all.It all comes down to how well you make the brackets. If I can get a hold of a digital camera I will show you.Talk to you later.

Re: PIAA Air Dam
Talk about bringing up an old thread....wow
Does anyone know if you can still get those PIAA Air Dams or know of a good way to re-shape a stock one to fit some fogs(round)?? thanks

Re: PIAA Air Dam
No Kidding. I was just looking at the date of that. 2 Years old. Yeah, good luck finding that PIAA Air Damn. those things are like needles in a hay stack. What you will find is an abundance of Tahoe/Yukon inserts that will fit the bill.
There are some out there that have an Round lights. I personally went with adding an Air Damn from a 2005 Tahoe and Putting in Oval Hella Driving lights. Way better IMO. Here is the finished product of mine: ![]() ![]() ![]() Cheers Evan
