Re: changing fluid in torque converter
I think the real problem is how do you DRAIN the torque converter..unless informed of the contrary, there seems to be no drain plug on the converter....so with the help of gravity, a little less than half the torque converter contents will be left unchanged.
In as much as filling is concerned, it will fill by itself as soon as the engine is started and transmission engaged. ...you will have to top up the transmission fluid level in several steps following that.

Re: changing fluid in torque converter
The normal way to do it with the transmission on the vehicle is to take it to a shop and have the system flushed. They will disconnect a transmission line and pump new fluid in while the old fluid flows out. They basically do this until the fluid comes out "clean".
A system flush like this isn't normally needed and in many cases is a waste of money. It's an up-sell item many times and a decent profit center for a repair shop. It's kind of like using premium gas in a Cavalier. Yeah the premium gas works great, but you don't gain anything from using it.

Got mine done at a local oil lube shop.
They first dropped and cleaned the pan, obviously while doing this most of the trans oil comes out with the pan removal, except for torq covert. & cooler. They replaced the filter and then flushed 10 liters through using the method cdr mentioned above. On older vehicles they (whoever they is ?) recommend not doing the flush but doing it the way I got mine done. This way the pan is cleaned of debris and a fresh filter ensures nothing will get dislodged during the flush and end causing MAJOR problems soon after. The filter replacement method is about twice as much as a flush but I think it's worth it. Cheer's |
