Question DRL not working.....

On my '01 suburban, the DRL bulbs do not make good contact in the socket. I have tried to gently pry the contacts in the socket to hopefully make a better contact, but this does not work. Is there a way to replace the DRL sockets. If so, how do you do it? Any other suggestions on a way to remedy this?

Re: DRL not working.....

Some questions and my thoughts...my thoughts and a buck at micky d's will get you a cup of coffee...

First, are you sure you have power to the existing sockets? I mean have you checked with a multimeter or some other tester? If the lights work intermittently you have a pretty good chance that you are correct and the problem is in the socket.

If you have no power there, you get to start looking "upstream" for the problem. Fuse etc.

If there truly is power at the socket, make sure that the contacts are clean. That includes both the socket and the bulb. I understand that you "lifted" the contacts in the socket, and that's a good step, but if they are not clean and "bright", the contacts might still be the source of the open circuit. The DRL sockets are notorious for corrosion on my truck, and I have seen brand new bulbs with dull, corroded, and oxidized contacts right out of the package.

I would only resort to socket replacement as a very last resort. I have been able to keep mine going since 2000 and I live in South Dakota where it's hard to tell if it's snow or salt on the roads.

Good luck
