if you have the SI engine already, there isnt much wiring that you have to do, just the Vtec, which you need to wire anyway if you are gonna do a head swap.

you could use the rpm switch if you swap the whole engine too. Putting a vtec head on your sohc, would be the same as swapping a sohc vtec in

yea, i know but the whole motor is an assload more expensive than an a6 block and then a z6/y8 head. plus i am gonna leave it as just an a6 for about a 1 1/2 months-2 months. so does anybody have one or know someone that does???

stick a head on your a6 and it's going to overheat. why does everyone think the SOHC v-tec is so hard? and so spendy? my y8 basically took 2 days. it would have taken only one if we didn't switch up a bunch of parts from a6 to the y8 (header, cam gear, different flywheel, clutch, and so on. my y8 was $500 (12,000 miles on it) + rpm activated switxch $59.

i know it sounds scarey pulling your engine. believe me, i didn't sleep well the week prior. now that it's done....i look back and it was cake. they make all the plugs different, you can't get them wrong. it's just a matter of sitting there and hooking it all back up

ZC is very easy (so I hear) but some of them can be unreliable and it will pay you to replace some things on it but that will mean more $$$ of course.

I may be coming across an si engine really soon. I'm buying a 90 civic si off a friend who crashed it in the back. How much are you looking to buy for?

Mmmmmmmmm...... ZC

Ami is right tho looking back, I think I'd consider a Y8 - they are about the same price as a ZC.

i was going to get a zc when i started looking into the z6/y8. i was calling around on ZC's and couldn't find anyone to warrenty them. and every place told me they highly suggest i get new gaskets, water pump, thermostat...and so on. i looked around and found the y8. i swear i feel like i bought myself a new car for $500. 12,000 miles for a USDM engine (out of a '00 Civic, engine didn't sit around in a warehouse) is like a newborn baby. didn't have to replace anything. my d16a6 had 120,000 miles on it. you have any idea how long it will take me to put 100,000 miles on the y8? the civic only sees like 5000mi/yr.

if you don't want to spend money, the cheapest way is to just get another whole d16a6...i think at Nippon they are around $250 (at least time last i looked)
