Camshaft Position Sensor
'97 Cav. 2.2
Had to replace it. Hideous nasty place to work (right next to oil filter), didn't help. Almost unreachable. When I tried to pull it out, it seperated. The electronics came out but the outer brass cone that covers the electronics stayed in the block. Of course. Lubed it up, no luck. pryed it--no luck. tapped with hammer--no luck. grabbed edge with pliers and pulled, no luck (little pieces of the edge just came off). Rusted on pretty good. Anyone else have this problem...and how did you get it out? Any ideas? Keep in mind that you can only get one hand in there..unless u take the engine out. thanks |

Re: Camshaft Position Sensor
For some reason, being brass you would think they would come out easy....but nooooo.....and the only thing holding them in is the bolt and the o-ring.They cant rust in (brass doesnt rust),but I bet the dissimilar metals are causing some sort of corrosion/electrolysis and thats making it hard to pull out.Is there room for a slide hammer? (body dent puller).

Re: Camshaft Position Sensor
You get a check engine code that says it's bad.
crankshaft sensor is a different sensor. I finally got it out by finding a long bolt that was a little smaller than the hole. Stuck it in there and hit the end of the bolt with a hammer in all different directions. It finally buckled up and came out. Lucky it was brass, because it's soft. Pretty hard to get a new one in the hole. The o-ring makes it real tight. Had to rig up some sort of pry set up to push it in. |

Re: Camshaft Position Sensor
What code were you getting? Curious, because i'm getting a couple codes (342 and 440) with check engine light and ETS light. 342 is for camshaft position sensor according to Autozone.
