Is this normal?

94 Caprice 9C1.
Evertime I press the brake it has been making a squeek. I looked under the dash and found out the pin that hold the pushrod to the brake pedal has been rubbing on this black thing (circled in red). Is it suppose to be this close? What is the black thing.

Thanks.

Re: Is this normal?

Looks like it is the solenoid that controls the shift lever. You know the irritating one that requires you to push on the brake to get the car out of Park?

Re: Is this normal?

It's the bushing where the pedal connects to the master cylinder rod.

Hit it with some lubriplate, or white lithium, or silicone spray. It'll stop.

That could explain why the lock out doesn't work.
