95 delta 88 shaking problem

This car has treated me well in the past, but recently there's a problem where my car will start to shake out of the blue. Last weekend I drove to Rhode Island from New Jersey (about 2.5 hours). The next day while driving back about an hour into the drive the car started to shake violently (seemed as though it was from the front end) so i had to pull over and park for about 10 minutes. It was fine after that for another hour or so until traffic cleared up and I started to move at about 75 mph for a little while. It seems as though it only happens on drives that are over 2 hours as it has never happened on local trips. Has anyone experienced this problem or have an idea of what could be causing it?

Thanks in advance.

ok it probably isn't the amount of time your driving, it's probably the surface your driving on. odds are your shock or struts are siezing up.... only way that i know of is to replace them...

There could be several reasons for vibration. Does it only do it a highway speed or at any speed? Does it shake in the wheel or seat? Do you hear any unusual noise with it? Does the engin and tranny seem to shutter or is it more of a vibration?

Re: 95 delta 88 shaking problem

So far this shaking has only happened while traveling at highway speeds (65-80) and stops when I park on the side of the road for a small while. The reason I thought it might concern distance is because it has never happened during short local drives.

From what I've noticed the wheel begins to shake slightly and soon after the whole car begins to shake more and more. I don't remember hearing any sounds when it happened, however it occurred fairly suddenly and my first priority was to pull off on to a shoulder. I did notice vibrations in the breaks as I was slowing down while the car was still shaking.

Thanks for the insights and please let me know if you need any more info about the situation.

Start with the basics, check for loose wheel bearings tie rods ,ball joints, then look for a tire with a belt shift, last then possible bad drive axle.

My '94 shakes a little bit, nothing like you have explained though. I've been told its the Trans. shuttering.

I had the same problem and finally git it fixed. If the tires have a good balance and the motor mounts are in good shape and if the vehicle has over 50,000 miles, there is a GOOD chance that it is the much overlooked shocks or struts. Buy good ones like KYB, not the mass marketed names

Re: 95 delta 88 shaking problem

We had a problem like this recently and it turned out it needed a tuneup. New plugs and wires and all was good.

Now we just have other problems....lol
