95 2.2 cold start problem.......

just in the last couple of weeks my 95 2.2 is having problems starting when the engine is cold, i usaually just hit the key and it starts right up, but lately i turn the key and it acts like it wants to fire right up but just gives a pop, it takes a couple of key turns to get it to start, and then it runs a little rough for a few seconds when it does start, then when the engine gets all warmed up i have no problems starting it...... any help would be appreciated.....

When was the fuel filter changed last? Needs to be changed once a year. Also, was the ignition module replaced when coil packs were? Any trouble codes stored you can check? Maybe a dirty EGR valve, dirty/plugged IAC (Idle air control) valve.

Re: 95 2.2 cold start problem.......

i need to change the fuel filter again, ignition module was not replaced with the new coil packs, i will clean and check the IAC and check EGR.......

actually now i am starting to lean toward the weather being the culprit, it's been damp and rainy off and on for the last couple of weeks, now the last couple of days has been pretty much dry since it has gotten colder and the problem has seemed to go away...... so then what could be affected by the dampness to cause this starting problem?????? only when starting the car after it has sat awhile like over night does the problem occur, the engine runs fine after it starts up and starts fine after it gets warmed up, i assume that after the engine is started the heat drives away the little bit of moisture that is there which is why it starts ok after the initial startup......THNX

Re: 95 2.2 cold start problem.......

The reason I asked about the igniton module is they get weak and weather affects them. My dad's old 89 Olds started having hard start issues when cold or wet. Eventually got worse until we replaced the module.
