I smell gas, and NO I didn't fart!

When I start my 94 tracker, I smell a shot of gas for about the first 30 seconds or so, then it goes away, i have a huge hole, well not huge 1.5" in the fire wall, which is probably why i can smell anything from the front. Does anyone know why I am smelling this gas.

In case it makes a diffence. stick shift, 94' 8 valve, and 223000 miles, and NO check engine light

First check all the fuel lines running from the tank to the injector to make sure you don't have a leak.

If no leak is found.

Check to make sure your o-ring is below the fuel injector. Makes sure the lid thats held by two screws that goes over your fuel injecter is all the way shut with the wires not getting caught. Theres also a square rubber grommet that the fuel injector wires go through. Put some gasket maker around it and place it back in the hole. Finally get a new gasket to put between your intake and T/B Bolt down to torque specs and it should take care of the gas smell.
