Re: Diff Ecu Wit Diff Motor

Reving it higher won't do anything for power gains. The stock rev limiter is there for a reason; you don't make power past it.

Re: Diff Ecu Wit Diff Motor

if you really felt like blowin your motor, you could buy a cheap $20 chip you put into your ecu that moves rev limit to like 9k and removes top speed limiter..... USE AT YOUR OWN RISK... i would never do it, i dont feel like having a $20 thing that does absolutely nothing for power, blow my motor...

Not true at all. You may gain a couple hp (nothing noticable by the human body), but you'll also go through gas like crazy and probably bog the engine (especially if it's stock). The stock ECU is capable of compensating enough fuel for basic bolt-ons. More fuel does not mean more power. Engines like to be almost lean to make the most power out of them (throughout their powerband), not way too rich. And FMU's are garbage for Hondas. Even for forced induction cars, they're just not reliable or even good compared to real engine management systems. If you want real power gains past basic bolt-ons, you either have to build the engine up (higher compression pistons and cams) or add forced induction; there is NO way around it. Simply adding more fuel, raising the redline, adding one of those cheap $20 e-bay chips, cheap e-bay resistors, etc; are all bs "techniques" that aren't worth a damn.

i'm just wondering if you've learned anything at all with the time you spend here and all of the questions you ask.

i beg to differ. i know of a b16a all motor chipped running all day close to redlining at 9grand and it runs like a beast. he shifts at 81/2 but when he shift at 9 or 10 and pop the clutch the car gets a burst of wheel spin as u shift into the next get there improving ur time. on top of that the chip gave a noticable amount of power. i dont nkow what kind of racer u or any one else here is but i feel ever bit of my power in my car. i notice things like a knock sensor if its un plugged or my distributor timing moves (only has one bolt holding till later today.), when the engine needs a valve adjustment (me and my furl faut over that one and i won), my airfilter being dirty, even my oil being dirty. i can tell all ofthis just by the sound and feel of the car as a go threw each gear..... if u can sit there and say i dont feel any of that then its because theres nothing wrong with ur car. if any one begs to differ then speak up and i can prove it to u.

Re: Diff Ecu Wit Diff Motor

When you shift later, you're going to be at a higher rpm in the next gear, than you would if you shifted sooner. But you're still losing power by reving those extra rpms, when you should have shifted sooner to keep you in your powerband. Reving higher on a stock engine only puts you past your optimum power band and puts unecessary strain on your engine. You're better off shifting when you're supposed to and making up those extra rpm (that you'd gain from shifting late) in the next gear, at least those rpms will be in your powerband. Is that all motor B16a you're talking about modified (higher compression pistons, and or cams) or stock? That will make a big difference. But being able to notice when something is wrong with your car is completely different than adding a modification to the car and being able to feel the difference. And I do beg to differ, so let's see some proof. How about a dyno sheet of a stock engine reving to the stock limiter and one of it reving to 9K. I guarentee the power will drop off far before reaching 9K. A butt dyno doesn't mean anything. People swear they feel big power gains from new exhaust systems, when in reality it's the sound that's just confusing their senses.

Re: Diff Ecu Wit Diff Motor

Well said CivicSpoon! I hate to say it but until you can cough up the dyno printouts with a video to show that all you did was add some ebay piggyback that removes the top speed and revlimiter then there's no point in saying you can feel the difference in a the hp gain. You may be able to tell every little thing that's wrong with your engine and that's great. Not everyone is so able to stay in tune with their car. That's doesn't make you a good racer or a bad one. Maybe a damn good mechanic but definatly not a good racer.

Yeah I wish I could say all that about myself and my car but I don't care as long as when it comes to crunch time, I can fix it.
