I believe it will bolt right in, but you would have to get an obd2>>obd1 harness and wire the vtec, shouldn't be too difficult though. Let us know what else you find out on it.

it will fit but you would need new power steering braket and ac braket..
but it may not be emissions legal.
Make sure the engine is obd compliant

what is obd? and i was promissed that if it didnt pass emitions i could get stickers providided for life for free. or until they acctually get it to pass. but besides that i was wondering if anyone would know where i would get the best bang for a buck.? i know its going to cost me but i dont know. also would the b16a1 line up with my transmission or should i just get the package deal. i have 2 years for inspection befor i have to take it through again. i can ge the engine ecu and tranny for like 1400 bucks which is nothin for me. but do i realy neew to get the whole package? if so let me know.

It's illegal to do that swap. You need to get an engine that's the same year as your car or newer and it needs to retain the same OBD or newer as your car as well.

OBD means On Board Diagnostics. It's basically a bunch of sensors that keep an eye out on the engine's vitals. There are three versions of it currently on civics and with each version, they get prgressively more aggressive on emmissions. The B16A1 is a pre-obd engine with means you'll have to convert yours to a pre-obd system.

Actualy the B16a1 is an OBD1 engine, its just not labeled as such.

This means it's a direct wire into a 92 Civic with VTEC.
But as was said since its also an older engine it is illegal (but you dont have to tell them) and the ECU dosnt have any OBD specs on it.

But there are also small issues mentioned above with A/C and P/S brackets.
and pretty much all B16a1s come with a cable clutch g/box. You need one with a hydrolic clutch.

Quite simply at the end of the day, altough the the B16a2 is a little more expensive, it works out easie and cheaper in the long run.

The B16A3 came on on the del Sols with OBD1, the B16A2 came on the 99-00 Si's and was OBD2 So the B16A1 has to be pre-OBD.

Well just becasue its not labeled as being OBD dosnt mean it isnt.

But quite simply If you want to convert an OBD B series engine to OBD I you use the Dizzy from a pre 92 B16a1.
Then there are the two O2 sensors, not normaly used on a non OBD car, as well as other small things.

Basicly OBD not only allows for better emissions controls, but its high level of engine monitoring also allows the engine to make more power, and be a lot smother. So Honda used it in the first B16a 2 years before they needed to.
Its one reason why the later B16a2 make another 10hp on the older b16a1. They use a more sophisitaced version of OBD which allows more precise engine monitoring.
