Diagnose this problem?

First off, let me say HEY! to all the Celica fans... I'm a huge, huge Celica fan even though I don't race -- maybe one day. This is my third Celica and I love it - a slick black 1995 GT Hatchback with a 5 speed manual transmission.

The problem I'm having right now is I'm having trouble with the electric start system. It was an intermittent problem that is now becoming the norm rather than the exception. I go to start the car and I hear a loud "click" but the engine will not turn over. I've checked the battery and cables -- even replaced the battery, and they seem to be ok. Is this the starter or solenoid? Is there any possible quick fix? I have to hit the road in less than a day to drive 500+ miles. I don't have time to take it into a shop. I can push-start the car if I need to, so it's still driveable, but I'd like some ideas on what might be wrong and if there's any quick fix? Thoughts?

Re: Diagnose this problem?

Yea manuals have them but its called a clutch swith I think. There should be a switch under the clutch pedal kinda like the brake light switch. If u r getting a click sound then it probably isn't it though. Check for a bad ground or connection to the starter, other than that, it might be your solenoid or starter relay. Hope this is helpful.
BTW scorp I like that hood on your car. I'm gonna buy one for mine but I still need to fix it first

Re: Diagnose this problem?

i have the exact same problem, but only really does it in the cold
its the neutral idel saftey switch, or a bad ground to your starter
thats what it is for me, i just have to go out and fix it instead of push starting my shit all the time
