Stroker Vs. Destroker
What do you guys think? I know the stroker will spool faster with a lower redline around 8000 RPM. But I would rather spin to around 11000 RPM. My only question is going to be is the bottom end going to be undriveable around town??? I dont care about difficulty to drive(I am the only person that ever drives my car anyway), I just dont want to leave every light at 4000 RPM. Has anyone built or bought one?

IIRC, Kevin said the 2.3 could go to 8500 no problem. Personally, I would go with a stroker, more torque and quite a big quicker spool. What cams and/or turbo would make any power out that high anyway? Then you would also have to get a really good top end so you dont run into valve float in those higher RPM's. IMO, the strokers good things out weigh the bad, where the destroker has more bad things than good. I would go stroker if I were you.

Spinning a 2.0 to 11k is pretty difficult. Many people have tried... Not many succeeded. 9.5k might be a better set goal. A stroker will get you better spool and torque, but you will have to rev lower. If you have a large turbo, you will just make your power sooner and probably more of it with a stroker instead of making the power later on in the power band on a 2.0L.
Why would you have to leave every light at 4k RPMs? Daily driving large turbos really isnt that bad. I have for the last year and a half and it doesnt bother me at all. If you want to boost, just have to wait a couple extra seconds. If you are talking about street racing, get DSMLink and use the anti-lag and studder box combined with AWD you will kick peoples ass. A higher revving motor will do better in drag racing, thats why shep and all the other fast DSMs still run 2 liters or 2.1 destrokers. The main problem is getting a tranny to shift at that RPM (and naturally Shep can make this aspect of it work
). For 99.9% of poeple a 2.0 or a 2.3/4 will be best. If you really want to rev to 11k get an Rx7

Personally, I like a higher reving motor. I'm gonna keep mine a 2.0 because now my tranny will actually handle 10k rpm shifts. Weather or not the motor will is a different story though.

I don't think any over the counter shep tranny will shift at 10k. Unless you specifically asked him to build it for this purpose, I wouldn't count on it
