Question need help w/photo etch seat belt straps

I'm thinking of adding some resin Zeta II or Recaro seats to a Silvia i'm currently building. I bought some 4 point photo etch seat belts to apply on the seat, but before i do this i'd like to know what some of you guys do with the straps once you have them go through the two holes on the shoulder area of the seats. The car wont have the roll over cage so that the straps can be connected to that. Instead its going to be stock, with the rear seats.

I've read and looked through the "How to" threads, individual threads regarding resin seats and photo etching, some of your personal websites, as well as surfed the web for photos or any information that would show what you do with the straps once you place them through the holes on the shoulder area of the seats. I've only seen plenty of pictures showing the front part of the seats.

Do the straps run all the way down to the floor? Do they get cut short and glued to the back of the seats? I'll appreciate any photos, steps, or advice you can offer, and thanks for taking the time to read my thread

Re: need help w/photo etch seat belt straps

Do what Auto-X'ers do, make a straight bar which goes across the fold of the back seat and is removable, the 4-point harness attaches to the bar.

Hi there,

look at this picture: http://www.schroth.com/german/container_german.htm

The black part on top normally attaches to the mounting point(s) of the rear-seat 3-point harness...

Just visit www.schroth.com for further information. Hope this helps ;-)

Cheers Sebastian

Re: need help w/photo etch seat belt straps

Ray, you mean cut some pieces of plastic, place them right behind the seats, and have the belt straps tied to them? Not many people take pictures of their models that show the back seats. The following picture is what i usually do see:

http://www.schroth.com/images/quickfit.jpg

Now the method I want doesnt have the straps running towards the back of the car. May not be accurate, but thats ok. I want the seats to make it look sporty but still have the look of a stock car without the rollover cage and long belt strap running towards the back of the car, where it will be tied down to part of the cage.

Re: need help w/photo etch seat belt straps

Does anyone have any pictures or know of a thread that might have pictures of how the belt straps were tied to the back of the car? Ive only seen them get tied to the roll over cage but im not going to add that to my model. I think i saw someone tie the straps to the bottom belt buckles of the back seats. Ive been looking for a while now trying to find that thread but had no success. I was hoping to get something done tonight but im out of luck and tired. *look at time i posted this* could someone help out please

Re: need help w/photo etch seat belt straps

Hi
What about this. Its just a bar that gos directly behind the front seats that the harness attaches to. And you can still use the back seat.

Hope this helps abit.

Re: need help w/photo etch seat belt straps

hey thanks nizmo and baja for your replies and illustrations. I found this site and was wondering if the two straps on back of the seat can be joined together and connected to one belt buckle in the back seat, sorta like your drawing baja. Except they get joined together and instead of connecting them to the floor, they get connected to one of the buckles in the back seats. I found this site that shows a drawing, but they have the straps tied behind the seat and then separate to be attached to two anchor points:

http://www.audipages.com/on_track/harness.html

Could you just keep the straps attached and connected to one anchor point in the rear seats? Realistically it doesnt seem like a safe thing to do cause it sounds like its going to create a lot of stress, or weight, on the one anchor point.

Re: need help w/photo etch seat belt straps

i remember reading somewhere that for best results the belt must less than 45 degree angle from the seats...whether 45 degrees up or down.....

Re: need help w/photo etch seat belt straps

Yes, there are rules as to how steep the angle for the shoulder harnesses can be. There is a diagram but no figures given in an old Demon Tweeks catalogue I got with a magazine in the UK, it appears that the shoulder harnesses should form a 45 degree angle at the steepest.

Most of the rally car kits I have put the belts only very slightly below the openings in the seats. They are usually mounted far back, where the back seat headrests would be.

Re: need help w/photo etch seat belt straps

Yeah thanks for participating in the thread guys. I've read that the harnesses are suppost to be 45* to 90* degrees. Pardon if im asking a grip of questions but this is the first model (S15 silvia) im building with belt harnesses and they did not come with the kit. Im using a set of Eduards photo etch 4 point harness and just finished putting them together about an hour ago. I slipped them through the holes behind a set of Recaro seats and the harness straps arent long enough to reach the headrest of the rear seats, not that thats where i was intending to tied them to. What i am trying to do is anchor the harnesses in a way that still allows the interior of the car to look stock with a bit of a sporty look, and the rear seats still look available to use without harnesses running all over the rear seats. Did that make sense?

I think I get what you mean. If you want to keep it somewhat civilized, I would make a hoop setup like in 91p10nizmo's pictures.

Re: need help w/photo etch seat belt straps

On a car with an otherwise stock interior they should be attached to the bolts that the factory lap belts are secured to.So basically they should appear to go between the seat and back portion of cushions.

Re: need help w/photo etch seat belt straps

Yeah i was thinking of doing something like nizmo's pictures but then i noticed those pictures were of a four door car and im building a Silvia. I am thinking of just doing what Aaron suggested although i was thinking of tying the two harnesses together and then anchoring them to the belt buckles. So instead of having a total of four harnesses (from the two front seats) tied to the back seats, I'd only have two and it wont look like theres a bunch of straps running to the back. What do you guys think?
