lumina 99 warm start problem

Hi - a similar problem was posted here before but it doesn't sound quite the same. My Lumina starts fine when the car is cold (or when outside temperatures are blow 50 degrees or so). However when the car is warm and I shut it off it won't start for about an hour. It will do about a half cranck (in fact it sounds like the battery is almost empty but it's not, I had it checked). Once I let it sit for an hour it will start as if nothing had happened.

A mechanic suggested to replace the starter for $400 but I don't understand how this relates to the symptoms + I already had it replaced 2 years ago because of a different issue.

I'd very much appreciate any suggestions.

Re: lumina 99 warm start problem

When starters start to go bad, they will not work when hot. The plates in the armature swell with heat, and will touch together and short out when hot. As soon as the car cools down, everything shrinks and the short is eliminated until the next time. $400 for repacing the starter on your car is rediculous. It's less than an hour job ($75 labor tops) and a $100 or so part ($150 max)
