car dont start in bad weather

when ever there is bad weather, like rain and snow and when ever its really humid my car wound freaking start. When i finally start it after trieng like a million times the rpm starts to fluctuate and goes below 1000 and my car shuts down again. One time i was goin to my college and i went through a puddle of water and my car stopped. the car cranks but woont start. i recently spend like 3500 to fix the damn car

Re: car dont start in bad weather

If your distributor cap was cracked (even micro-cracks [when old]), that would do it--getting water down in there.

Re: car dont start in bad weather

It could also be your ignition coil. The coil sits on the drivers side and mounted on the back wall. To test it, pour a little water on it while the car is running. If the car stalls, then it would be your ignition coil.

Re: car dont start in bad weather

The coil is on the firewall, near the middle--like, under the driver's windshield wiper. Open the hood, and look for (mine's black) a cylindrical object mounted on the back wall--there's a fat (spark-plug-like) wire directly from the middle of the distributer cap to it.

Who knows? I always replace a defective part with a new one. If it works, go for it...If not, you'll have to replace the coil...

Re: car dont start in bad weather

I just rescently put new coils in my v-dub. It's an easy job but coils will go for $300 + because I found I had to buy the whole pack and that you can't just replace a cap like if it was a distributor. My advice would be to replace because the fix will probably just be temperary.
