Power Window and Lock problems after repaint
I just had my '98 repainted. Now today I have an issue with the window's and the power locks.
The window on the driver side went down just fine but now won't go back up. The pass window will also go down, but won't go up. Also my power locks don't work right. The only function that work's is the unlock from the pass side. The other's are dead. Note: locks work fine from the remote. I pulled the plugs out on both sides, and all the molex plugs look like they are plugged in just fine. I have the window wiring diagram from an earlier post. But before I start debugging and digging out my volt meeter - any body care to steer me in the proper direction? wondering if the full body repaint had somthing to do with my issues |

Re: Power Window and Lock problems after repaint
As an update, I pulled off the door panels and am playing around with the wiring.
I am able to get the motors to work fine by directly applying 12v (from a motercycle battery). At least my windows are shut now and I can drive again. On my dirver side, with my volt meter I can see that there is power going to the switch from a brown wire. The driver side controls will put both windows down just fine. The express down is not stuck as it functions fine down, in express mode or regular, and stops moving down when not pressed. The pass side controls are dead. And neither control puts the windows up. Right now stuck and going to look for a beter wire chart. Each control has two brown, a drk blue, light blue, black, tan and a small grey wires. If anybody has a chart that tells what all of these are that would be great. Or any other suggestions that might help. Perhaps it's some type of ground trouble, bad controls, cut wires. |

Re: Power Window and Lock problems after repaint
Pokerman,
I would look around at the connectors and cables near the Body Control Module (BCM). I believe the BCM is behind the plastic trim panel below the passenger side of the dash (where the passenger's feet would be). You may have to lift the carpet & pad to see the wiring. The reason I would look here is because that is a common area where both the lock controls and window wiring would be. Also, look for a Private Message (PM) with some more help. Take Care,

Re: Power Window and Lock problems after repaint
Okay after spending the afternoon with a voltmeter and a wiring chart have figured out that THREE of my control switchs have gone bad. The driver side window controls, driver side power lock and the pass side window.
I just switched the power locks (the molex plugs are the same) and there is one good and one bad. Now for my question. I just had a full body paint from MAACO. I know that to dry the paint they "baked" it on. Now I don't know high a temp it gets, but I do also know they were in a hurry to get my car done. Could they have turned up the heat too much and this high temp then baked my controls? Should I question them about this? 2nd Question - where can I get a replacement window control switch? (I know the dealer but I bet that part is like $100) thanks for the help. -Poker |

Re: Power Window and Lock problems after repaint
I doubt it. Usually when they bake the paint it doesn't get much hotter than it would sitting outside on a hot, summer day.
Check local junkyard or even Napa for the parts
