Does anyone still vistit this forum? I have a 2001 Daewoo Lanos. Anyone else have one, if so what have you done to it so far?

It's a 2001 but I just bought it from a dealership.

The Check Engine light is coming on.
My damn dealership is over an hour drive from my house but they claim that because Daewoo is bankrupt, that I can't get it serviced anywhere else!!
To boot, mechanics are having a tough time finding parts for the daewoo. I thought everything would be okay since GM bought them but that's only overseas.
(Does anyone know more about this whole bankruptcy/finding parts for Daewoos issue)?


Anyway, the dealership claimed the Check Engine light was coming on because we aren't screwing the gas cap on tightly enough (more than 3 clicks).
Why, after 3 months, has it just NOW decided to start indicating this problem?
The light is back on again and I have to go ALL the way to the g-damn dealer AGAIN for it.
I'm getting very ancy about my 3 month old car.

Well, the dealership told us that once the "check engine" light comes on (due to the gas cap not being tight or for whatever reason, that the only way it will go off is for the carcomputer to be reset at the dealership.

However, on the way to the dealership, I turned a corner pretty fast (was in a hurry) and the light went back off. Permanently (well, for now).

I went to the dealership, anyway, and the repair manager was puzzled as to how the light went out on it's own.

So what does everyone think? Was it a sensor problem? Contact problem in the wires or what? I don't like these ghostly indicator lights coming on and going off, mysteriously, when the car is so new.

They said the ECU had to be reset by them? You know how its reset? All you have to do is unplug the battery for a few seconds. Give it mayber....30 secs. just to be safe. I always do it after I install a mod or something like that. You can reset the computer and it will often make adjust ments and things when it comes back on.

That´s rare. I have my Lanos since 1998 and the check engine light came on only a very few times (like 5 in all this years), and that´s because I started the car and took of very fast and didn´t let the car warm up, that´s what I´ve been told anyways, so I don´t worry.
PS: I´ve been told, at leats here in Europe, that Suzuki dealerships will work with Daewoo since 2003. You might want to check that up.

Well, there's not much rhyme or reason as to why the light came on, but at least this time it went off by itself when I accelerated quickly around a corner. (so the dealership didn't have to reset it this second time that it came on).

I live in the U.S. and am reading all sorts of articles about GM taking over Daewoo here in the U.S. (or at least taking over our warranties).
My dealership has no idea what's going on, so I've had to do all the research via the internet on my own.

I will be glad when this gets settled. For now, everything has to be taken care of by my dealership and it's over and hour and a half drive from me.
Hopefully, GM will let us all take it to the closest GM dealership.

uh-uh. OBDII computer. You ain't gonna reset it by killing the power. It remembers. Yes it does. Stores codes for a LOOOONG time.
The only way you can reset it is with an OBDII scan tool.
