The door ajar light on my 2002 Explorer is staying on and we can't get it to go off. We have made sure that all doors - including liftgate - are shut but the light won't go off. Also, the auto-locking mech. won't work now. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Re: 2002 Explorer door ajar light
More likely the electrical switches in the door latches are dirty. Use contact cleaner or WD-40 to clean the switches.

Re: 2002 Explorer door ajar light
I had the same problem with my 2002 Explorer. I'd be driving along and then out of nowhere the interior lights would come on and the door ajar buzzer would go off. At first the problem was only intermittent, but became worse so I finally took it to the dealer. They found a faulty switch in the driver door. The repair cost me about $120. It wasn't covered under warranty.

Re: 2002 Explorer door ajar light
I just finally resolved that problem with my 2002 Explorer XLS yesterday.
It was the remote lock/alarm receiver located behind the right rear door under the paneling. There are three screws holding it in and three plugs going to it. Researching the part I found there were 9 production models made for 2002. So you will need your production month located on the drivers door jam, VIN number or the actual part number on it. My units part number was 2L2T-15K602-AH. Prices at Ford dealers was anything from $125-$180 . Remove the battery cables before R&R. After installation refer to the owners manual to re-program the remote FOBs.

Re: 2002 Explorer door ajar light
FYI...The 2L2T.15K602.AH isn't actually a service part...it's an engineering number. It crosses to a part number that updates to a 4L2Z.15604.AC...but if this is determined to be your problem then, as crimp said, the dealer will use the VIN and will probably cross the eng. number off the one you have. Not arguing, just giving you some more information. Also, the door ajar switches, which can also cause these issues, are VERY problematic on many Ford vehicle, notably Explorers and Windstars. MM.

Re: 2002 Explorer door ajar light
I think I am having the same problem. Did you power door lock switch work on the door that was "open"? Mine is my driver's side and the power door lock switch does not work. But it will on the passenger side. And the power mirror controls is not working.
Any ideas? |
