8.1L problems?

Because of the problems described in my other thread I am buying a 01 2500 with the 8.1. I don't have any experience with this engine and am wondering what to expect, what problems are most common and how reliable it has been? Thanks

Are you selling the 96 Suburban?

Re: 8.1L problems?

ya I'll be selling the 96, it has new heater cores, brakes, caliper, fresh AC recharge w/new rear expansion valve. It really doesn't have that many miles on it, only 120k.

Re: 8.1L problems?

Do you have any pictures? Price? It is a 2500 series, correct?

Where are you located?

Re: 8.1L problems?

We had a burban here at work with the 8.1L, it was the bosses but we were allowed to use it when needed because it was the "extra" vehicle. I used it and had it serviced many times. My experience with it was nothing but positive. I LOVED that motor/truck, nothing more fun than driving a big block, sure the Duramax is great but just doesn't have that gas motor fun factor.

Anyway to your question, we had it up to about 85k, with zero problems. Towed a toy-hauler many times up the mountians here in AZ. Make sure the previous owners, (if used), were religous about oil changes and used ONLY Mobil1 and that motor should be solid as far major mechanical components. Haven't heard anything too bad or more than one person having the same problem with them anywhere.

My $0.02

Re: 8.1L problems?

Purchased a 2002 suburban about 6 months ago with the 8.1L. Plenty of towing power! Runs great and have not had any problems so far....just trying to figure out how to get better gas mileage. Enjoy the power.

Re: 8.1L problems?

My 2002 is prone to overheating.
Currently working to figure it out.
First engine was replaced because it overheated.
