Tips for a Best Man's Speech

It's my best friend's wedding this summer and i have the honour of being his best man. I'm happy for him, really looking forward to the wedding, but kind of shitting it when it comes to the best man speech. Did i mention it has to be in french?

Anyway, have any of you guys made a best man's speech before, and what advice do you have for me?

cheers

Re: Tips for a Best Man's Speech

just don't make a joke about the bride or family, it sounds obvious but people do it an fuck it up. so just lay off the "could go either way" stuff.

i don't know jack-shit about this though.

Re: Tips for a Best Man's Speech

I was the maid-of-honor for my mom...but I gave up on the speech.

I did however, write my stepbrother's best man speech for $10.

Just Google "best man speech"

Re: Tips for a Best Man's Speech

I was the best man at my brother's wedding just about a week ago, and it went pretty well...I'm kind of a short and sweet guy, and got a lot of complements, so I guess I've got a couple of tips based on what DIDN'T work for other people at the wedding

1. Don't use note cards, it means your speech is too long
2. 1 funny story about your experiences with them is enough, after that people lose interest cause they weren't all there

I would say the best approach is to make the group laugh at the begininning with a funny story that is typical of the groom's behavior, then say something funny concerning the bride...and then end with a corny line and a toast, something like, "But in all seriousness, I know you will both make each other happy....I'd like to be the first to raise my glass to the bride and groom. Cheers."

That's pretty much what I did, and it worked out well. Good luck.

Re: Tips for a Best Man's Speech

Short and sweet is the way to go for sure. I did the toast at my best friends wedding it was probably the shortest speach ever but everyone liked it. But my sister gave me the finger cuz I kinda disowned (spelling?) her in the speach.

Re: Tips for a Best Man's Speech

The best speaches are ones that are of a cute situation that involved you along with groom and the bride. If their both part of the anecdote, you'll have a winner.
