GM FINALLY including '99s for tailgate strap recall

http://www.recall-warnings.com/auto-content-9622.html

It's only taken the NTSB more than two years to investigate the issue but better late than never. Now I have to find out how to not only get my money back for new straps but get the repair work done on my gate. You'd be surprised just how much damage a tailgate gets when it's dragged at 70 mph down a highway for 1/4 mile... That was three years ago...Fortunately, it's documented at the stealer's body shop - assuming the estimate is still on file.

Not too worried about it really. I may get it done, I may not. My tailgate's never down anyway.

I hope you didn't have your tailgate down, thinking you'll get better gas mileage.

Re: GM FINALLY including '99s for tailgate strap recall

Fortunately, no. Turns out that the pass side latch bumper that keeps the gate from rattling was installed backwards at the factory somehow. As a result, simple vibration eventually caused the latch to saw through the plastic bushing on the latch pin. Come to think of it, I still have to check and see if there is an actual "left" and "right" latch or if a single latch is generally used and simply "inverted" on one side. If not, I've got an even better idea of why the latch failed....
