you can clean them, that's the temporary solution. The better thing is to get a new one.

Don't buy a new filter. Go to an automotive parts shop and pick up a 'K&N filter recharger kit'. It costs about 10 dollars and can be used to clean your filter multiple times. I'v read that a small amount of dirt on the filter actually makes it work better than if it were totally clean. So check to make sure you really need to clean it.

i clean mine after every time i get an oil change... but thats only because i got ram air n it gets really dirty... but check the filter every once in a while... decide for yourself when to clean it... if the filter looks too dirty then clean it... the only reason i do it right after oil changes is that i like doing all my car maintenance all around the same time... oh yeah... and take your time cleanin it...

im not too sure what you're askin for when u asked if they were the same or different... are you askin if they are made of the same material??

well... the stock filter is never really meant to be changed... i think honda changes it after like a few years... so i guess i clean the filter alot more often... performance always comes at a cost... i use the K&N Filter Recharger... picked up at Pepboys for about $12... the red dye gets kinda messy tho... i think my post is still here... i asked about this a while ago... do a search n it'll prally show up... if not... just post here again n i'll answer as much as i can...
