Nope haven't heard anything about it, what are they trying to do? Not that it will effect me anyways.

Good subject! I have been following this for some time now and we are way off from doing this. OBD2 still is not perfect. but it is required by the EPA since 96.
We have lots of cars that we do not test the OBD2 on for some reason or another still.

We will see what new features, or should I say ideas will be added. I am sure there will be ways around this. (like wrapping aluminum foil around the transponder) Just a thought. but relax we are far off of this.

But if these new features do tell the DMV that our cars are polluting it can also tell them that we speed too. Hmmmm. We will see.

Re: obd3

yeah, basically the government is going to be able to monitor everything. There big thing is pollution. i think the government can stay out of our business but thatis just me. i can see them sending us tickets for speeding, and sending us tickets for not geting pollution control devices fixed.

Re: obd3

Yeah I really think that if my car told the goverment that it was polluting or out of inspection or speeding, i'd have to kick its ass. its nice to think there will be ways around it but i think the goverment will put some kind of law against tampering with it.

Re: obd3

Re: obd3

obd third generation will include: for example, if a cop drives by you and your :check engine" light is on then he can pull you over because he will have some sort of devise that will signal him. another example includes: when you go to smog your car, the technician will simply put some sort of scanner in your car that will tell him if your car meets standars. and it can also let him know if the car has had any servicing, any particular problems inthe past, because the computer will record this data and w they will not put that pipe inthe exhaust any more. ALSO, if you get in a HIGH SPEED pursuit with a cop they will be able to turn your CAR OFF!! i got this info. from my auto tech. instructor in school.
