I have a 98 LasSabre and both of my headligh clear covers are not clear anymore.
Is there a way to replcace the cover itself without the painfull cost of replacing the all assembly?? |

Or is it the haze on the inside. You can take off the headlights and use a swab on the end of a plastic rod to wipe the haze off the inside with ammonia or something mild. |

Re: Headlight clear cover replacemet
I actually took the lens off the headlight assembly (carefully) so I could clean the inside good. Then I RTV'd the lens back on.

Using the swab it's hard to find something to hold the paper or cloth. I like the yard signs the lawn treatment people use. I just grab one out of a yard. |

Re: Headlight clear cover replacemet
The service manager is probably right, they are not made to come apart. Of course doing this you risk breaking the lens and have to buy the whole thing. I started wedging screwdrivers/wood sticks etc in the gap between the base plastic and the lip of lens part (similar to opening a paint can). Working slowly along the edges, side edge first, I got it apart. I might have also used an Xacto knife to help break loose the sealant. I actually think they werent sealed very well in the first place, causing film on the inside.
