www.sr20deforum.com is what you need. I doubt anyone here can give you a straight and good answer. Thats a forum dedicated to the all powerful engine.

if you have the sr20de engine now, I would just turbo charge yours. As far as if it will be the same, It depends on which det engine you wanna do. Theres the bluebird version which has lower compression, pistoncooling oil squirters, a t-25 turbo, and is the easiest to do and at stock boost you can get about 175-180whp on stock boost. Then theres the gti-r engine which is a little more difficult to do and requires more modifications, but it has individual throttlebodies, bigger rods, and a t-28 turbo and is also more expensive. It depends ao what you wanna do. If you wanna turbo the u.s. spec engine, I would go with the F-max stage 2 turbo kit. It's a good kit and comes with everything you need ready to bolt on, but one thing you need to do is get a stronger clutch.
good luck.

well actually i don't have a nissan...yet. I'm asking this for a friend. He has a 1997 200sx and i suggested that he should put an sr20de then turbo charge it. I think it'll be cheaper to do that.

boosted Se-R

did you convert your 200sx se-r to RWD??? also with the bluebird engine which is a nice engine, is it possible to make it just FWD? this way it would just bolt right into a 200sx se-r? i heard its possible you just have to change the config, but its not hard? hmmm is this right or wrong?

U can bolt it on with the se-r. U can use the tranny. Theres a few species of sr20det. The bluebird is the one u actually need cause its a fwd. I think the intercooler stays on the top like the WRX. So u can use your se-r tranny and just get the sr20det long block.

Actually you can use both bluebird and Gti-R engines for the fwd Se-r. The bluebird is just easier to do. And the top muont intercooler wont fit under the hood. (well from what i've seen) And I don't think you can use the AWD tranny at all. Especially to make the car AWD.

Easiest way is to take the SR20DE out and whack the SR20DET in, will basically only cost u the engine as it should just bolt onto the standard mounts.
In Australia, the engine costs around $2K. So thats around $1200US.

And a SR20de is alot diff to the DET.
Here it is, once and for all for every single forum here.
U cannot just turbo an NA engine and have the same engine!!!
Turbo engines have diff pistons, rods, heads, compression ratio, EVERYTHING!!!!
So u will get much more power, and it will be cheaper, if u have the turbo engine in the first place!!!

no, take your Sr20DE and make more power for less money then dropping in a JDM engine....... hear me out here.....
so the engine is different......but it still holds...... and if u want rediculous power amounts your going to want new internals anyway. Plus it has a higher compression ratio so u will get another 10-20hp just off that compared to the JDM engine with same turbo. SO buy a SR20DET turbo manifold with a T3 flange and mount a T3/T4... even with out an intercooler u could run say 5-6psi of boost and have more power then the stock engine for less money and work if u rand a bigger turbo(still cheaper)........ponder that

Lightbulb sr20de internals

actually, the internals of a sr20de are turbo internals. the engine itself was designed to be a factory turbo, it was only later that the sr20det was de-turboed for the US market. so the internals will handle a lot of your boost needs. if you check out the april 2003 issue of turbo and high performance magazine, page 54, they built a sr20de with only bolt-ons, basically no internal changes, (cams was the only change somewhat inside the motor), and pulled 304 whp on 91 octane pump gas running 17 psi of boost. so there is no question that the sr20de you have can handle that kind of boosting..
