97 Venture power door locks

I have a 97 Venture, the unlock button works, but the lock does not. It doesn't work with the remote or any of the switches. It does lock when you shift from park. I did a search for this topic and found nothing recent. I did find a thread a couple years old mentioning the wiring corroding under the passenger side carpet. I pulled up the carpet but could not find any splices, which the previous thread mentioned. Anyone have any ideas on the problem or a better location for the possible wiring problem? Thanks in advance.

Have you tried locking & unlocking with the key in the door (hold the key in the lock position for a few seconds)? Do the doors lock doing that?

I have some information here. Check out the links to the locks & switches.

It looks to me that you may have a BCM (Body Control Module) going bad or a loose connection going to it. I'm thinking loose connection because the lock works when you shift it from park. I believe the BCM is near where the passenger's feet would go, against the side, but I am not sure.

Take Care,

Re: 97 Venture power door locks

Thanks for the info Greg. Being my wife's van, I had forgotten the locks work by using the key. After trying to lock/unlock with the key, they work fine now! I must have a problem with one of the locks, but at least I've narrowed it down to that, thanks!

Re: 97 Venture power door locks

I'm a 14 year old boy who's really interested in door locks. I hope you'll take the time to answer my questions. Are your door locks programmable? Do they automatically unlock?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Welcome to the Forum!

Yes, the door locks can be programmed to lock when the van is shifted out of Park, and unlock when shifted back into Park. That's the way my van is set up.

Just a note: It is not really the "locks" that are programmed, it is the BCM (Body Control Module) that is programmed.

Keep asking questions & verify the answers -- It is the best way to learn.

Take Care,
