CRX scatter shield

I'm looking for a scatter shield for a 1989 CRX si, but I cannot find one anywhere. I don't know of anyone local that can make one. I live near Pittsburgh, PA. Any input would be apprecciated.

i believe a scatter shield is something you put around your tranny at the track so if it blows up then shit doesn't go flying everywhere. but i could be totaly wrong

Could be one of many things.

A flywheel guard, so if your running a LOT of hp (say 400+) and a lightened flywheel or fancy clutch you have something to stop the bits flying everywhere if it shatters.

A sump guard, so you can bottom the car out on rocks and shit and not worry about putting a hole in the sump.

or gbox shield incase the box blows up. But again you need a LOT of hp before you have to worry about that.



So, Drcustom he Q. is, why do you feel you need a scatter shield?

I was thinking of a flywheel/tranny combo. I'm not pushing near that much power, but I've known of bad things happening with less than huge amounts of power. Sometimes I do like to run long and hard. I plan on setting my engine up to be able to run past it's redline, and I have a hella light flywheel. To put it simply there are just to many variables. I'm not that concerned about it, but it is in the back of my mind, and It's mostly a better safe than sorry thing. I've heard some real horror stories, and I'd rather keep little bits of metal from becoming part of my anatomy if something did go wrong.

Well just remember that your are sitting on the opposite side of the car to the engine and g/box in a LHD car.
And that before it enters the car any parts have to travel through the bell housing, and then through the firewall. Which is not a thin piece of metal. (well it is, but its thicker than a transmission tunnel on most RWD cars.)

I personally wouldnt worry about unless you were running LOTs of hp.
It takes more than you would think to brake something bad enough that parts have enough velocity to break into the car and do you damage.
Were talking 400+hp.



But, if your that saftey conciesious (and theres nothing wrong with being safe when involved with motorsport) then I doubt you will find any one who makes one. Quite simply very few Hondas will ever make enough power to justify it.
Your best bet would be a light enginering shop.
Or even make one on your own, all you need is some light steel plate.
Either mount it off the fire wall, or off the g/box useing the g/box securing bolts.

Or otherwise approach someone like JG engine dynamics who have built very high hp cars.

Thanks for the response moppie. I realize that I am probably being over-cautious here, but I have also thought of circuit racing (just a thought so far), and I'm pretty sure that a scatter shield is required. Thanks again for the advice.

Not in any circut racing iv ever seen. Even on the big HP RWD cars.
Infact I think its only needed for drag racing here if your running a really fast 1/4 time. Like sub 10s.

Hi there-Monroeville here. Check with FXmotorsports.com (724-838-1424). Also, There are drag shops in Pittsburgh such as B&R on Allegheny River Blvd. that sell "ballistic" nylon shields that are used on fuel cars. If you need a steel shield-sorry but Lakewood does not make them for improts (so far as I know). I agree that unless you are into serious HP at the strip the use of a shield in a FWD car may not be needed. If anything you can use a thick piece of steel mounted on the firewall and floorpan. Lastly-take a look in the Summit catalog and maybe you can find a wraparound there. It may be the wrong size, in which case there is a trim shop over here that can resew it for you.
