Theres got to be a better way...
Man, whos brilliant fucking idea was it to put the tranny fluid fill hole on the damn side of the tranny? Mike's tranny fluid was black as hell so we changed it. Well, tried to. We went to every parts store in town and a dealership looking for syncromesh, none here. So we got some stuff at the Chrysler dealership. We took it to his house and upon further inpection its the same shit as the gear lube he has at home, GL5 75W-90. The stuff he had was like $4 a quart, but that shit from the dealer was $12 a quart! WTF? So we go to start putting this shit it and couldnt figure anyway to get the spout in the fill hole so we went and got a 2ft length of 1/4" ID tube, rammed it on and started pushing on the bottle. Sure enough it started to go in. After like 10 minutes of the two of us trying to hold them damn tube on the spout and squeezing we got a 1/3 of the bottle in. There has got to be a better way. Any suggestions?
Also, any ideas where I can order syncromesh from? |

Re: Theres got to be a better way...
Sorry, I don't remember having any problems last time I did mine. I'm pretty sure I just put the bottle to the hole and squeezed. My tire was off too IIRC. I've slept since then.

Re: Theres got to be a better way...
Ok, after looking everywhere in town and all over the place on the internet, I finally found some syncromesh for $7.29 a bottle and like $56 for a case of 12. Good deal? They have 5 gallon buckets of it for $95 too. 5 gallons is a shit ton too much, but I could keep a couple for me and sell the other ones to other local DSMers.
I was thinking about a something kinda like what we rigged up earlier today but just permanent. If I can figure a way, I will affix (<--- my english teacher would be proud of me using a vocab word ) a good ROUND hose about 3 ft long to the cap so we can run it through the engine bay to the filler hole. The hose we had today was stupid clear plastic bullshit that was flat. Then I will just save this contraption and screw it onto the next bottle. Comments, suggestions, ideas?

Re: Theres got to be a better way...
Go to a hardware store and find the largest ID tubing you can, with no larger than a 1/2" OD, that way it doesn't take you an hour to fill the tranny.

Re: Theres got to be a better way...
Yeah it's a huge pain in the ass, i just changed mine (and i have to refill it again!!) I used a 1/2'' line too. Just takes a while, I've heard of a set up (i think on tuners) using a line and a funnel but it sounds like the same thing, were you squeezing the bottle? That helps, also cut a hole in the bottom of the bottle so it doesn't create too much vacuum.

Re: Theres got to be a better way...
Use the pump handle from a soap dispenser, clean it out really good and use it instead. I haven't tried it yet, but I will in a few days here. I would assume its much easier than the 1/2" tubing and two people spending an hour filling it.

So i wouldn't go through the trouble when I could get 3' of tubing and be done. but thats just my opinion.

Re: Theres got to be a better way...
If you think that's expensive look up how much BG Syncroshift II is. I had to buy 3 quarts and overnight that shit. 50 bucks just for shipping, ouch. The BG stuff came in a squeeze bottle that had a pointy tip, made it pretty easy.

Re: Theres got to be a better way...
Hahah, On the top of the tranny there is a large bolt. 21 mm I think. Take that bolt out, and then the side bolt in the tranny out too. Pour your gear oil into the top hole until the oil starts coming out the hole in the side of the tranny. Once its spilling onto your nice clean garage floor, put the bolts back in and youe done!
Tony P.S. Go to a GM dealership for the syncroshift!

I know what bolt he is talking about... I too thought it was a fill hole but never tried it. Has anyone else done this?

Re: Theres got to be a better way...
I used one of those gas/oil mixer syringes. Maybe you can find an even bigger one because the one i used was relatively small.

Re: Theres got to be a better way...
Theres a fill hole on top?!
I'm talking about Pennzoil Synchromesh, not BG Synchroshift. I'm not going to complain about $7/quart gear oil, the shit we got from the Chrysler dealer is $12 a quart! But is that $7 per quart of Pennzoil Syncromesh a good price? |
