where can i find info on all the diff types of engines cuz wen ppl talk bout ca dis and ka dat i get lost

normally i'd say the faq but i don't even know where it is anymore..

all the engines are coded (obviously)
the first two letters are the series, the next two are numbers (represent displcement - 20=2.0L), then there's either 'de' or 'e' or 'det' or 'dett' or whatever. the 'e' means electronic fuel injection. the 'd' represents dual overhead cams and the 't' means turbo or 'tt' twin turbo

so there's the engines:

ca18det, found in euope, japan and australia, the sr20det found in japan, europe and australia, and the ka24e and ka24de found in north america. all these engines belong to the s13 and s14 chassis. they're all relatively easily interchangeable.

the vg30dett is the twin turbo engine found in the 300zx. then there's vg30de which is the non turbo 300zx.

the rb series engines are all from skylines (gts, gtr, gts-t...) they're all inline 6 engines. the rb20det, rb25det and the rb26dett. the first two are good engines but the infamous skyline gtr has the rb26dett. put 2 and 2 together and you get an inline 6 cylinder 2.6L twin turbo monster. the gtr32, 33 and 34 are only year distinctions.

thats the basics of the engines. there are many variations of these engines (sr20de non turbo) and even more types (vk45de/vq45de) which are v8 engines in the nissan trucks. but i've only seen one reputable project in the last 2 years so don't worry so much about them.

this is the absolute basic knowledge you'll need. there are other things you could learn about them (sr20det is aluminum, ka24de is iron) that to me isn't very relevant but to others it is..

i don't know what you guys think but there's a hell of a lot of bs in that thread. like dead links to places you can get an sr or front clip or whatever.. there's shit he probably shouldn't read cause it'll mislead him or give him the wrong info.. we might need to refurbish it a little

I think the whole sticky and faq on this forum sucks, its like 50 pages of run around that could have useful information put on 2 pages, plus u gotta click here click there, might as well just delete that entire thing and start letting people talk on this forum. I hate when a forum just says read the faq and they never talk about anything, who cares if its been said 100 times in 5 years, if thats how your going to run things pretty soon you won't have anything to talk about that involves 240sx's. Each individual person posts a question to try to fill their own personal needs, why not just take the time to tell them something u think is so simple so they get helped the best they can, or is being constructive here looked down upon.
