how to remove antenna base in 1997?

Im looking to replace my antenna, but cant figure out how to remove the old base. (my stock antenna is broken off, so I cant just unscrew it).

not sure about your 97 but on mine it was mounted to the plastic grill in front of the winshield which you can pull off, after removing a few screws, to get to the bottom. just be careful, the plastic could be degraded from sunlight and be very brittle. i had to drill the hole in the body below larger and mount the new one there after cracking the plastic

Figured it out- the base itself had slots on it, so I just stuck a flathead in there, and tapped it with a hammer. Popped off after a while. Then, I removed the old base, put the new one on, with the new antenna. A little 3m trim adhesive, and its not going anywhere, ever. (I dont use the radio, so the function of the antenna is unimportant if the adhesive were to mess something up.)
