Roof Rack Screws, need replacement nut inserts
OK, so I took the plunge and bought my first foreign car, a 2000 Xterra 4x4.
Everything is fine except the factory roof rack screws and nuts. They were rusted in place and were only screwed halfway in, meaning that the roof rack carrier rattled around when I drove on the highway. Soaked them with penetrating oil and let them sit overnight. One came out easily (sort of) two of them snapped the threaded nut-inserts inside the rack-rails. One had to be hack-sawed. Here’s the question. The part used for the nut inside the roof rack rail is called a Splined Eurosert or DL Threaded Insert. Found them on the Internet and I can drill out the old rusted ones and replace them with new BUT the minimum order is 250 to 1,000 pieces. For those of you who are in the same boat, here’s a link: http://www.avdel.textron.com/brochures/threaded_inserts/index.htm Does anybody know where I can buy just a few of these roof rack rail nut-inserts? From what I have read in the forums, Nissan only sells the entire side rails. Thanks, Ashton |
