Towing/Heavy Duty Packages

I have a question about towing packages....... my blazer came with a remote oil filter, automatic transmission cooler, and all that towing package equipment. The thing that gets me is why does it have an aftermarket receiver hitch (its only rated for 2,000 pounds) and an aftermarket trailer harness....... Shouldnt that stuff have come with the truck?

There really is no way for me to find out because of crappy record keeping from the previous owner

Is this a towing package, heavy duty package, part of the off-road package, or could this be all aftermarket work?

Re: Towing/Heavy Duty Packages

The tow package back in the day of your blazer would have the hitch receiver, but no wiring harness. The full size pickups didn't even have the wiring harness back then.

Why do you say your vehicle has the tow package and/or aftermarket receiver (are you going by an RPO code in the glove box, and is there a name brand on the receiver)? You mentioned a tranny cooler, even with the factory tow package, the tranny would still be cooled via the radiator cooler. So if you have one out in front of the condensor, it is an add-on. The remotely located oil filter is standard on Vortec V-6 4x4 vehicles, with or without the tow package.

Re: Towing/Heavy Duty Packages

Thx for the info the codes in the glovebox are all wiped out, old age = rotted paper.

It is an add-on tranny cooler, just wasnt sure if the factory had those on certain packages.

As for the receiver hitch its not aftermarket (Was I wasted when I wrote this?), But the wiring harness is.........

Once again thx for answering my question
