Re: Just a question i was wondering...

Bandit,

Funny you should ask... Prior to 1965, GMC was attached to Pontiac. All the late '50s/early '60s GMC trucks sported Pontiac engines. I dated a girl in school who's dad had '58 GMC with a 370 in it. I understand they used 370 in the trucks, after it was discontinued for the cars ('59-up got 389). If you tear down one of those awesome 305 V6s from the '60s GMCs, you find fully machined combustion chambers (ala Pontiac), 30 degree intake valves (ala Pontiac), dual pattern cams (ala Pontiac), the way the pan seals, timning cover, etc. all resemble the Pontiac V8. That engine was quite versatile as well. We recently built one for an old county water truck (5-ton) that was a 478 CID V6. That puppy made some torque!

In '96, GM again shifted engineering responsibility for GMC from Chevrolet back to Pontiac. You'll notice, since about '98, GMC and Chevy trucks and SUVs bear a resemblance, but aren't "the same in different trim". They still share platforms for most models, but interior and exterior are unique to the marques.

In short, GMC IS the "Pontiac of trucks".

yeah i actually that would be pretty interesting to see what a pontiac truck would look like, it would probably have that sporty look to it.
