Re: how much for a 96 Ram

I would say according to average, you would be lucky to get 5-6k. The tranny will really drop the value becaus nobody wants that kind of headache and if the paint is only fair, people tend to look highly on the cosmetics. I would say if you could get the tranny fixed and clean it up, you may get up to 8k, depending on the rest of the truck. I have a 99 and have seen then at high retail around 10k, and that is high, trade in value on mine is at 6.5-7k. That sounds crappy but it is only trade in value. I always recomend to sell it for what its worth to you. If you would rather keep it than sell it for 6k, then don't sell it for that much. List it for what you want, you may get lucky and find someone willing to pay 8k.

Re: how much for a 96 Ram

The transmissions are a "piece of cake" to rebuild, they are the easiest ones to rebuild. There is one thing to check and get rid of this,a plastic checkball in the bottom transmission line towards the radatior(the rubber hose part). The plastic checkball melts and plugs the line right up resulting a burned up transmission.Just pass a long #2 phillips screwdriver and tap the screwdriver with a hammer to pop that checkball out and no more transmission problems.

For trade in at a dealer maybe $4k, sell out right maybe $6k. That would probably be the best.

Re: how much for a 96 Ram

Frederick,
I have a 99 5.2 and I have overheated my tranny many times and am going to put a cooler on it but it needs a rebuild first. It still works fine but will slip occasionaly and overheats easily under any strain. I have rebuilt motors, carbs, etc, but never a tranny. You said its easy, could you maybe contact me and give me some info on it? I don't want to pay 1500-2000 for a rebuild if I don't have to. Thanks
