Butterflies
Ever meet someone and act completely calm and cool, but the more you hang out with 'em, the more you start stuttering and losing your touch, and get those butterflies in your stomach?
just posted something for discussion. I've got a lot of friends who are chics, and this doesn't happen to me, that's why their just friends. i've known 'em a looong time now. but some girls, i just get that high school first crush bs and that's when i'm like "ok, time to calm down and ask her out".

any other guy i'm perfectly fine. maybe someday i'll get better.

Re: Butterflies
yeah i've gotten that feeling a few times. it really sucks because you KNOW that you are past the HS crush stage and that you should just do something about it. there's been a few times when i've called girls that i just have to sit on my bed and work up the cojones to call her. it sucks. but it's part of life i guess

Re: Butterflies
Kinda makes you consider some of the reasons why services like online dating and instant messaging have become so popular. Of course, while they have their advantages, they have their drawbacks as well. I find that when I'm talking to a girl via email or AIM or something, that extra layer of artificiality sort of adds a buffer to the whole discourse. It's like I'm just detached enough to feel that "safety" (maybe we just feel potential rejection is easier to take if it's coming to you in text on a computer screen.) Plus, you have that extra time to compose a more witty, provocative, or thoughtful response. And of course, you can type in as much as you want to say, but until you hit "Enter", it doesn't get sent -- which kind of beats having to spit out all out with fumbling hands and faltering words or face to face (all you need to do is accidentally "drop" something on the Enter button, and your big question is magically and irrevocably wisked away, relieving you of any burden beyond "what's done is done -- the cat's out of the bag".) On the other hand, there's something to be said for saying something face to face with someone, a part of the experience which, while sometimes (or often) uncomfortable is, nonetheless, part of the experience.

Re: Butterflies
that's a good point. i know one of my best friends' mom has done the internet dating type thing. i don't reall know why, and neither does my friend. i guess i must be old fashioned or something, but i still find it better when you can ask someone something face to face. nothing is better than seeing them say 'yes' or whatever and you look into their eyes. m
my friend talks to his girlfriend more through txt message than they do face to face. it's rediculous. i think because of AIM, txting, messenger, everything done electronically is part of the reason there is less and less confidence when speaking in public. even at a party, where people are faded and it's easier to talk, do some people still stand in the corner and dont' say a word. |

As far as online dating, and communicating with people electronically...I can see what you guys are saying, but sometimes I think that when I talk to a person without seeing them, I get to know what they're really like before I get to physically be with them. And, if I can really like someone for their personality, then the physical things won't matter.

It's strange because I get butterflies really bad when going up to a good looking girl. The thing is though that once I start talking to them, the butterflies go away and I'm very calm.

Re: Butterflies
See, i don't get butterflies around good looking girls. it's only when i realize that i may really like that girl that they start, if i haven't already started going out with them.
