Adding Power Door Locks to '05 Aveo
HI. I'm hoping to get a power door lock kit for an '05 Aveo 4 Door Hatchback. It's my girlfriend's sister's (who is pregnant) and we wanted to see how difficult it would be to add them!
Has Anyone done this on this car?? How hard will it be?? Will the universal kits be fine, or is there a better one specifically for the car? Would like to add Keyless entry (remote) also. Anything on that model that would be different than a regular car?? Thanks for any and all info!!!!!! The Count |

Re: Adding Power Door Locks to '05 Aveo
Luckily my aveo came with powerlocks and keyless entry, however, When i put automatic door locks, keyless entry, remote trunk release, and remote start in my 2000 cavalier (different model but should be similar) it cost me around $400 and that was a discounted rate.
My best estimate, if you want it done by a professional would be around $500-$600. For what i had done. However... universal actuator arms, which actaully make the doors have power locks can be purchased on ebay for as low as $8 (including shipping) a peice if you feel comfortable using them and installing your self you could probably get away with everything for under $100 with keyless entry as well. Labor is what will cost you the most, but if you do it yourself im pretty sure it voids the warranty. |

Re: Adding Power Door Locks to '05 Aveo
Yeah the parts aren't that expensive but the labor is. Also, it isn't all that hard but time consuming to do correctly. I usually charge about $60 per door to install the lock motor and $100 for the keyless remote if doing it at the same time. Some people just do 2 doors while others do all 5. Usually you can get the locks for about $20 a piece or less and about $40 for the keyless entry. The big thing you need to know is basic vehicle electronics, some mechanics and to have the proper tools.
