Brake problems on 95 safari

hi I think the problem with my van is the brakes but I am not sure at all. It makes this noice when we come to a stop and I press on it. It mostly makes it when it's like a sudden stop not a timed stop. anyone have any idea what it is? let me know please!

Re: Brake problems on 95 safari

.

Kinda hard to tell what the problem might be without being the one pressing the brake peddle, and hearing the noise directly. However, here's a few things to consider:
- Rotors are too warn out or warped. If wondering, we went through 2 sets of warpped front rotors on our Safari van.
- Master cylinder is acting up. Does the peddle feel inconsistant or sometime "mushy" at times? If wondering, the master cylinder blew on our Safari.
- The brake pads are burnt. If pads are over burnt, they sometimes sound funny. When pads over burnt, they usually warp the rotor at the same time.

If wondering, I find the front brakes on the Safari / Astro vans too under built. With its engine sitting directly on the front end and heavy chassis, the front brakes (usually at 60%-70% stopping power compared to the rear brakes) take all the beating. Especially if you drive the van "wild" or pull a trailer that doesn't have brakes (on the trailer).

If wondering, our Safari van now has a brake controller and our trailer has full electric brakes. Since doing this towing upgrade, we've had no more problems with the brakes on our Safari van.

Hope these ideas help....
