Drifting Cars???

Hey, i'm really gettin into the whole drifting scene and i'm wondering if you guys could list some good begginer cars to drift with and why. Maybe if you own one of these cars you could give me some good things and bad things about it. Any advice at all would be very helpful.

i dont know many, the nissan 240sx is prime drift material, but i'm not sure if it's a good begginer's car. basically, it just has to be rwd, a stick, and try to avoid larger cars.

A light weight car with a fairly powerful engine and manual trans and a short wheelbase with snappy steering, old VW beetles or Mini's are perfect. Cars which have a history in ralley racing are built to be driven that way , FWD is ok but not very rewarding. Removing the front sway bar or other modifications that make the front wheels are looser than the rear makes a big differance. Tire design plays a huge role in how the car will handle in a slide. Tires are generally designed to be "forgiving" meaning they will be predictable and "right" the car when its sliding.

A closed road or skidpad would be best since you'll likely loss control at some point in time. Skid pads are made for people to practice such manuvers. If you're not going to go to a track then gravel or dirt roads would be best since you don't need to go very fast to break the tires loose. Start slow and gradually go faster as you learn. You should try using a steering knob, you can find them at truck stops or race stores, F.Y.I. they're illegal.

the 240 is good..
i learned in an old audi..
beat the hell out of it.. but the nissan would be a good one..

240sx might be a little heavy, but the old rx-7 or an old datsun z would be really good. I love drifting my dad's old beat up 280z and even my auto legacy turbo does pretty good.

Usualy in open parking lots. Those work best for me. Im still learnin though.

I have a REALLY beat 92 probe in my driveway i take out when i want to beaton it. for some reason it has a tendency to kick the back end out when i turn it hard. now that i heard of removing the front roll bar i can't wait toget out of work and rip thatthing off. this car will be nutty (i hope)

yeah the only places i ever drifted was in a parking lot..
or around an old abandoned building trying real corners..
as much as i hate to admit it.. i did hit the building a few times.. just some scrapes... i'm not super at it but it was a lot of fun ..
and if i ever get to the point where i can parallel park like that..
well then i'm just gonna take over the world..

Not with my already sky high insurance premiums, I saw a TV show about stunt driving school, one of the things taght was to drift into a parallel parking spot. Think maybe TLC or AE cable channels had it. I wish my school taught that.

Looks as if there is a lot of mis information about drifting running around

Anyway the 240SX(S13) and the 2 gen RX7(FC3S) both make good starter cars..there cheep and there is a lot of stuff for them inthe junk yard. Honestly cars with Longer wheel bases make for better drifters because they drift smother..light car suck due tothe fact that they cant keep momentum up in a slide, I use to drift an AE86 long time ago and while it was a fun car, the light weight and short wheel base(and no LSD) made for a really tough time drifting!

Anyway once you get a car(RWD!!!) the onlythings you really need are an LSD, factoyr or other and a stiff SUS. thats it..you dont need a JDM SR20DET swap or tons of money into turbos and crap...just pratice and skill..
There is a hole art to drifting..and just kicking your rear out or sliding a car into a parking space is NOT drifting..
