Exclamation 98 Ford Windstar (GL) Overdrive Problems

My wife and I recently bought a 1998 FordWindstar GL 3.8 with 120,340 mi. We took it on a 30 minute 50mph and under testdrive and absolutly loved the vehicle! We went back to the car lot and bought it for 3,300 CASH. The same day we decided to take the van for a spin down the express way for a minor road trip. BIG MISTAKE as we were driving 65 mph (about 20 minutes into the drive) the van kicked out of overdrive into a lower gear and almost wiped us out. We got off the interstate and limped home. I called the repair shop that suposedly did the good ole 160 point instection before I bought the van and they told me to bring it in, I did. They called me later in the day and said that it was a Park/Overdrive sensor and it could be replaced for 150$ or lower if they ordered a special tool to remove/install it. Im still waiting for them to complete the job.

P.S. Has this ever happend to you?

Re: 98 Ford Windstar (GL) Overdrive Problems

Hi, RE, Your windstar almost wipe out, Classic symptom of a faulty TR,(trans range sensor)...$150 to fix it is ok, But I don't get the special tool to remove it, It's a simple job with regular tools...Let me know how you make out. GOOD LUCK, Clay..
