Re: Heater core removal-97 cougar

Here is a link on how to remove the dash & heater core.
How to remove dash & heater core.

There are a few things that do NOT have to be done.

First off, leave the steering wheel connected to the dash. You only have to unhook the universal joint. It makes the dash heavier, but it saves at least an hour of time. You don't have to disconnect anything going to the steering column.

Second, you do not have to remove the dash. You only have to slide it far enough back and to the drivers side to get to the heater plenum box through the glove box hole. The dash winds up having to move out the door about 6 inches.

Third, by not having to remove the dash, there are several connectors that you can leave in place.

Also, you do not have to discharge the A/C and remove the entire heater/evaporator assembly.
