Hissing Sound from Front Driveside Wheel.

Hi again guys,

I'm pretty sure that something is going wrong with my GP (2000 GT)

When I have the wheel slightly cocked to the right (such as when getting off the highway and curving to the right) There is a hissing sound coming from the front left tire (drivers side) This sound first happend after I smashed up the front left of my car back in december, but, its makign me nervous now.

Any ideas from the GP experts?

Hi rich

I had a feeling you would say that, haha

The sound is more pronounced now, I noticed today.

Is there anyway to be sure it is the hub bearing? Can I visually inspect it or something like that?

And, How much would the bearing run me?

Thanks

Re: Hissing Sound from Front Driveside Wheel.

The hubs run $120-$180 depending on brand. I sell two different brands where I work, PTC, which run $96.60 ea (+s/h) and AC-Delco, which I can sell you for $151.00 ea (+ s/h). The job isn't that hard. If you can do brakes you have the skills to do a hub bearing. You'll need a torque wrench, a hub puller and a 36mm hub socket to do the job right, and make sure you don't even look at your impact wrench. The vibration created by an impact wrench will damage the ABS wheel speed sensor contained in the hub. Whatever you do, Don't buy the "white box" cheapo no brand hubs sold by the box stores. They are of extremely inferior quality and have a high failure rate. This is one case of "cheap is cheap", so unless you want to do it again real soon, buy a quality name brand hub made in the good ol' USA.
