Re: Normal gas mileage check

18 mpg seems somewhat on the low side...but if it includes city driving, or short winter time treks, this is expected. I get consistently more mileage with my Transport 3800 than with my KIA 2000.
Summer highway driving brought me close to 29mpg..that is Imperial gallon, thus 24 mpg on a US gallon...

Re: Normal gas mileage check

It is a weird habit of mine to regularly figure the mileage, every time i fill up. My 2000 2-dr. Convertible Sportgage 4x4 gets 20 mpg, nearly always. It doesn't matter if its city, highway, whatever, always 20 mpg. On a 12-hour long continuos road trip, with only stops to refuel, i got a whopping 21 mpg! It's the only time it was not 20mpg. I always thought that was pretty lame for a vehicle of this size. But i love my Kia!

Re: Normal gas mileage check

Kyle 20mpg in city is good, well, not bad..that is at least as good or better than I get in similar conditions..but getting the same ..or 21..on highway is a little short...may be depending on driving speed, headwind, anyway, I'd say 3 to 4 mpg short of what I usually get on highway (but I would expect it to do even better, just as you do). I was just wondering if your front hubs are really disengaged. ???

nothing feels out of the ordinary ...is there an easy way to be sure the hubs are disengaged without lifting the vehicle and watching?

Yes...if transfer case is in 2wd position and transmisison in neutral, just have someone hand push the car for just a few feet: the front driving shaft (between tcase and front differential) should not rotate, nor any of the half shafts to the wheels....but if you have the vacuum hubs, repeat the test with the engine running (in neutral of course) in case the vacuum solenoid leaks and applies the hubs when engine is running; this would not show if engine not running.
