2000 jimmy acceleration problem.

Hello everyone, I have a 2000 gmc jimmy when i floor the car the rpm's hang at around 3000 and will not go any further unless i back off on the gas pedal. When accelerating slowly all is fine. This occurs while driving and in park or neutral? any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Rambler

Re: 2000 jimmy acceleration problem.

Is the "SES" light on? If so, what are the codes? How many miles on the vehicle? What service work has been done to the vehicle? From your description, it certainly sounds like a restriction in the exhaust system, possibly catalytic converter. There are a couple of easy ways to confirm this. The most conclusive, and most reliable of which is to loosen the "Y" pipe from the exhaust manifolds, start the engine and see if it responds better. Only operate the engine in this condition briefly as heat is a concern under the hood. The other diagnostic procedure involves the use of a vacuum gauge. If you'd like details on that procedure, let me know and I will explain it.
