Question about capacitors

I was going to get a 1 farad capacitor to stop my lights from dimming when the bass hits. The capacitors I'm looking at(Audiobahn) say they are rated at 24 volts continuous and something higher for surge. But I thought that a car runs of 12 continuous volts. Is this the wrong capacitor for a standard system setup?

first of all, don't get audiobahn, get lightnigh audio, and there's one other brand (cant remember off the top of my head) that is actually a full farad, most only go between 20-35% of that, but anyway, those numbers are pretty much what the cap can provide, the full farad lightning audio digital can (in our drummers car anyway) hit up to 26 volts.

Thanks for the info, that's good stuff, but that wasn't what I meant. For just a normal setup will a capaacitor taht says it is rated for 24 volts continuous, is that ok to run on my car(12 volt system)??

It will work fine.
And, another thing... a capacitor is a capacitor is a capacitor... no matter what brand. They all work the same way (minus cute features like digital read-out).

I'd also like to add that installing a cap is more of a band-aid fix. The problem lies in getting more current from an alternator but, sometimes... getting a hi-output alternator (aftermarket/rebuilt) costs a bit too much.
