Smile Digital Tachometer/Speedometer

This is for people who did'nt know about it and dont have the tachometer in the cluster, or for people who want to see exactly how fast they're going in MPH's or KPH's.

1. With the car turned off, hold down the trip reset button.
2. Start the car while still holding the trip reset button.
3. Once the trip meter says "test", release the button.
4. Press the button 7 times to see your speed in MPH.
5. Press the button 8 times to see your speed in KPH.
6. Press the button 10 times to activate the digital tachometer.

I guess the only real downside to this, is that it resets your trip, and you have to do it everytime. It's still pretty cool though!

Also, if you don't have the cluster with the tachometer, you CAN swap it out for a cluster with a tachometer. It's plug and play. You just remove your tach-less cluster, and plug in the new tach-happy cluster. It's that simple! There is only one down side...the mileage will not stay the same. It will read whatever the new cluster has stored (kind of defeats the purpose of a digital odometer, doesn't it?). Your best bet is to find one with a few more miles than your current mileage, and keep it in your car. When the mileage on you car becomes the same as the new cluster, find a parking lot, and switch it out. It's a few screws and the harness on the back, nothing too drastic.

Doesn't this also enable you to pull some basic trouble codes?

I believe so. But I don't know how to read them. I just found the tach thing by complete happenstance.

Re: Digital Tachometer/Speedometer

does anyone know what all the other choices are in those there are quite a few of them, i just assumed there would only be the 3 choices but there are a few of em' one even displays the outside temp (atleast i think thats what it was) (guess it could have been engine temp as well)

Re: Digital Tachometer/Speedometer

from what i have seen thus far there is speed in both units (handy if you cross the border, there is a tach a dash light check and engine (coolant?) temp in c or f, there are also allot that make little to no sence to me, are there any ford mechanics out there that know what these are and could list them off?
