testing a 93 GC ABS brakes?

I just had the master cyclinder replaced and the system fluid replaced. I have ceramic pads and grooved disks. I have never tested the ABS to see if it works or what it feels like so last night I was out on a side street while it was raining and stomped on the brakes going about 35mph. The jeep came to a quick stop but I never felt any of that bouncing of the brake pedal that I've read about or anything alarming that would make me want to remove my foot from the brake as some people have done in emergencies and made the braking worse.
SO!!! Does this mean they work or not? The jeep did not skid or show any signs of wheel lockup yet I wonder if they work since it seem to me that it took a bit longer to stop than I would have assumed from a hard stop like I did. I am big at 6'2" so not pushing hard enough is not the issue.

Any thoughts on these ABS systems? PS the light only comes on when you start and never comes on again so according to the manual all is well.

Re: testing a 93 GC ABS brakes?

To really test the ABS you would have to do it in SNOW or on a GRAVEL/MUDDY road.

If you tired didn't skid at all, then there was too much grip (tires to road contact) for the brake to try to lock-up to activate the ABS.

You could even try it on a really bumpy road.

I've gotten my ABS to work when I made a sudden stop at a light over a manhole cover that was lower than the road surface. I've also tested them in snow while screwing around.

Re: testing a 93 GC ABS brakes?

Thanks. Yes I have fairly new one size over standard tires on it that are great for griping the road. The one plus I did sense was that as hard as I tried to stop it did not skid or show any signs of loosing control. That alone is nice but I think you don't get as much stopping distance...that may just be a perception not reality since we all know that once they start skidding you aren't stopping. I really don't feel like driving around to find some gravel or dirt field to play in. We do have rain but that doesn't seem to produce enough water on the surface to lift the tires off the pavment. I guess for now I will have to take the ABS on faith that they will work. Actually I hope not to ever have to really use them in an emergency

Re: testing a 93 GC ABS brakes?

I have the opposite problem, mine come on all the time and it irritates me. My driveway is gravel and has a 90 degree left turn in it. If I pull it too fast and put on the brake while turning the anti-lock kicks in and I get no brakes b/c of the loose gravel, I've almost ran into the garbage cans several times and came really close to hitting the house once. The only thing that saved me from hitting the house is I turned off the key and the wheels all instantly locked up.
