Question 1990 Lumina 3.1L , Tried this now what?

Hi ,
I'm having a problem with my Lumina. I'll describe exactly what has happened, I'll try to be brief.

A couple months ago, it was not wanting to start. I thought it was because I let it get below a quarter tank of fuel. Thinking it couldn't pick up fuel correctly. The reason being, everytime it wouldn't start ,it was low on gas. (1/4 tank).

I would get more gas ,and have to start it with starting fluid the first time. It would run perfect , start perfect and everything would be fine for a few weeks. It started doing this even with a full tank. Then it wouldn't start at all. I parked it and started driving my truck.

I recently, have the time to try to fix it. I started with testing for spark . It was intermittant, spark good then studder then spark etc. If i tried ,I could get it to start on starting fluid, however I know this isnt good on engine. Fuel pressure at the rail ,is in limits , according to manual. Plug wires are new, plugs new.
I had a friend who has same car . It is one he bought recently , wrecked in front but ran very good. He's decided not to fix it , I bought the motor. Knowning the parts were good . I've changed , crank sensor , TPS, O2 sensor, map sensor, mat sensor, egr valve, ECM, ICM, coils. also cleaned up all the battery and neg. connections, at battery and block . battery is new and charged.

Hers whats happening now. Fuel press. good. turns over great , no fire to plugs. If I give it a shot of start fluid , it occasionally tries to fire ,but wont start anymore. I also put prom module out of my ECM into the other one, thats in car now. The only trouble code I get now or before is the 12-12-12 , 12-12-12, etc. Is there a procedure I need to follow to reset the ECM. My manual is very vague on this . I did have neg. off during all elect. work.

Please help , where do I go now. I am not able to spend the money to take to dealer.

Any ideas greatly appreciated, as I said I have the other motor for parts. The motor in my car only has 40,000 mi. on a new short block . This was done before I bought it.

Thanks for any replies,
RGKhunter

Exclamation Re: 1990 Lumina 3.1L , Tried this now what?

Get a noid lite, see if you have injector pulse, also get it on a scanner and see if you have cranking rpms. Stop putting used parts in , one bad one and you will never back track to your root problem ,do the basic diagnostics and post back results.

I agree with Max, any one of the used parts could be bad, making re-assessment impossible.
