99 Suburban - Blower Motor Speed Selector Switch
I've got a 1999 Suburban that I've had to replace the blower motor speed selector switch for the third time. The first time I replaced the switch the vehicle had over 60,000 miles on it. The switch was melted around the contacts. The next two went out within the next 10,000 miles. The replacement switches work fine for awhile and when they start to go the start working on an intermediate basis. Can the quality of the replacement switches really be that bad or is something else causing them to fail. It never blows a fuse either.
Also, how do I use the search feature for this forum? Thanks for your help, John |

Re: 99 Suburban - Blower Motor Speed Selector Switch
As far as the heater switch goes I had the same problem on my 99 (melted contacts). Once I replaced with a AC Delco, the problem went away. I had a similar problem with a Wells (autozone) distributor cap; left me on the side of the road. I have learned the hard way that although the quality of the parts originally put on these trucks is marginal, I'm better off buying Delco replacement parts.
As far as searching goes, once you logon a search option will appear at the top of the thread (not top of page). Type in a few words and let it rip. Advanced searches work as well. Hope this helps. |

Re: 99 Suburban - Blower Motor Speed Selector Switch
The last two switches were A/C Delco switches. It's got to be something else that is causing the switch to go bad and cause an intermittent function. Any other suggestions?

Re: 99 Suburban - Blower Motor Speed Selector Switch
Sounds like you have a loose connection on one or more of the wires on the plug. Loose connection= heat.

Re: 99 Suburban - Blower Motor Speed Selector Switch
Other components in the system are the resistor pack for the 1st 3 blower speeds, the "high" speed relay, the blower motor itself and the wiring.

Thanks Guys! Looks like I've got some digging to do; I hate those electrical gremlins!

Re: 99 Suburban - Blower Motor Speed Selector Switch
Now I remember having to replace the pigtail as well as the switch. There was a loose conection that caused the short. I still can't get used to having to replace pigtails; shouldn't they last forever? Hope this helps.

It turned out to be the main power terminal was starting to slip out the back side of the fan switch. It was arcing across which made it work periodically, but never blew a fuse..only melted a few switches. I was able to save the terminal and my Suburban is blowing strong once again! Thanks for the help crew!
