Changing a supercharger tensioner
First timer to the forum, and it's already been helpful.
I have a 1997 Grand Prix GTP with 3.4" pulley. I have about 184k miles on it. I have been hearing a squeeling sound when the car is idleing and also after I go into overdrive. My mechanic said that it was the tensioner pulley for the supercharger. I watched the belt at idle and I noticed that the tensioner was vibrating a little. I have few questions: 1) Do you agree that this is probably causing the squeeling? 2) How difficult would it be to change the s/c tensioner? If not, what would be the steps involved? |

Re: Changing a supercharger tensioner
It could be the problem. Take the supercharger belt off and spin the ten. pulley by itself. Does it spin freely or does it catch. I think its a reverse threaded bolt.
Pulley should only run ya about 20 bux |

What's the easiest way to get that belt off?

Quote:
To remove the SC belt, tension is released by turning the 15mm nut on the idler pulley counterclockwise.

Re: Changing a supercharger tensioner
Thanks. One more quick question. Is there a difference between the actually tensioner pulley and the tensioner assembly? If so, what part number should I be looking for?
